What to Bring and What not to Bring

Allowed Items

  • A maximum of ten shirts which fit appropriately
  • A maximum of ten pairs of pants/shorts, which fit appropriately
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Two pairs of shoes (no laces), one of which needs to be athletic shoes
  • Pajamas/shorts/T-shirts for sleeping
  • Pillows, linens and blankets are provided, but residents may bring a personal comforter or blanket from home.
  • Makeup (may be used if resident is on an appropriate level)
  • Wireless notebook/journal, coloring books
  • Warm jackets, gloves and boots may be needed for outdoor activities
  • Personal hygiene items that are not alcohol-based (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, cosmetics, chapstick, etc.)
  • MP3 player that does not record audio or video
  • Crayons, coloring books and writing pads are encouraged

Items not Allowed

  • Clothing items with drawstrings, laces, cords or cinching devices
  • Any items containing alcohol in the first three ingredients including hygiene products
  • Mouthwash and anything in an aerosol spray can
  • Chemicals such as cleaning spray or room deodorizers
  • Substances in glass containers such as perfumes or beverages
  • Potentially offensive articles such as pornographic literature; clothing with offensive slogans or ads for alcoholic beverages
  • Personal razors (unless it’s electric and cordless)
  • Personal electronics (cell phones, cameras, personal televisions, computers, tablets or gaming devices)
  • Batteries, including button batteries in watches, toys, etc.
  • Cans
  • Jewelry of any kind
  • CDs (unless used under direct supervision)
  • Cell phones
  • Chemicals, including hair care products
  • All tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes
  • Compact discs
  • Compacts with mirrors
  • Cords
  • Electrical appliances
  • Empty bottles of any type: glass, plastic, etc.
  • Money, checks, credit cards
  • Glass containers of any type
  • Plastic bags or trash bags
  • Gum
  • Knitting needles
  • Knives
  • Liquids containing alcohol
  • Medications other than those prescribed by personnel
  • Metal combs, hair picks, hairpins, or nail files
  • Pencils with any metal
  • Pens
  • Pins: safety or straight
  • Radios
  • Glue or paint
  • Rattail combs
  • Electric razors
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needles
  • Spray cans
  • Steel-toed shoes
  • Tape recorders
  • Three-ring notebooks
